The southwest adobe birdhouse is designed similar to the old Hopi and Navajo Indian pueblo adobe homes, and best suited for Swallows, however, since we at Birds Eye View have a nondiscriminatory policy, we have had bluebirds, house finches, wrens, nuthatch and believe it or not, starlings renters. It is designed for mounted on a building, tree or pole.
Swallows are good neighbors with each other, most other birds and people. The good news is that swallows love mosquitoes and other insects, eating a 1000 or more a day.
This birdhouse has an old southwest Hopi Indian pueblo adobe home flare, including roof poles, ladder, archway, cactus, dressing around the bird entrance and a raised nesting floor to prevent the potential of water seeping in under the birdhouse into the nesting area.
The southwest adobe birdhouse comes plumbed with three drains and four natural air conditioners (vents), two on each side. It is insulated with 7/8" cedar.
Cleaning the adobe birdhouse is simple, just remove three screws on the bottom and you can take the bottom off for a complete spring-cleaning.
Like all our country home-style birdhouses this birdhouse has a raised nesting floor to prevent the potential of water seeping in under the birdhouse into the nesting area.
